These spaces may have their own time limits specifically intended to keep charging spots turning over for other EV drivers.

Paying for Parking vs. Paying for Power

At a dedicated charging space, a driver may need to pay for the parking session, the electricity used, or both, depending on the specific setup, which can be genuinely confusing compared to a standard meter with one simple payment. Reading the specific signage at a charging space carefully, rather than assuming it works like a normal meter, is worth the extra attention.

Overstay Penalties at Charging Spots

Many EV charging spaces include penalties specifically for staying parked after a vehicle has finished charging, intended to keep the limited number of charging spots available for other drivers rather than functioning as ordinary all-day parking once charging is complete.

A Rapidly Evolving Area

Because EV charging infrastructure is still expanding and city policies around it are evolving relatively quickly compared to traditional metered parking, it's worth checking current, city-specific information directly rather than assuming rules from even a year or two ago still apply exactly as they did.
